Having only visited the hotel myself and having not actually stayed in the rooms, I rely on reviews that I have read and heard from friends. The hotel is located right on Reforma Avenue just blocks up from the US Embassy and right near to Los Proceres shopping center where the doctor’s office is located.

Some of the reviews I have read include:

“a very nice pool area and all of the restaurants are nice”
“The staff was very friendly and helped with translating for us.”
“We have great memories of our stay at the Westin!”
“The Westin was wonderful. Very accomodating, beautiful, great food and rooms, and in the heart of the city. Walking distance to many good restaurants, fast food.”

There have been very few (none that I remember) complaints about stays at the Westin Camino Real. Having stayed at the Hotel Biltmore Express we had access to the many services and pleasures of the Westin. None was greater for us than the swimming pool in the center of the facility. The pool is quite large and accomodates many guests without giving the impression of feeling “cramped” in. There is a great place for parents to play with their toddlers in the pool as well. The restaurants are absolutely incredible and their staff is very accomodating as was mentioned.

While the cost may be high for some budgets, no one will leave feeling they overspent for their rooms. There is a family floor with a small family lounge for those able to keep their baby during the visit trip. The Westin is a regular spot for those adopting from Guatemala. more than likely you will run into someone you’ve read posts from on an adoption forum.

There’s a nice little hostal near the airport that I think was $30/night, though I haven’t been there since 2004. Do you know how much money $100 is in Guatemala? Many people work a month for that. I’ve stayed in $5/night places there and wouldn’t recommend that in Guate as the city is dangerous, but you should know there are less expensive options. If people want to spend more that’s their choice, but I just wanted to put out there that it’s not necessary; grab a backpacker guidebook or look at backpacker websites and you’ll find all kinds of stuff (not just youth hostels but places appropriate for those of us in our 30’s or whatever age).

Unfortunately, areas in GC where Americans will feel safe and comfortable with their babies on the visit and pick-up trips charge American style prices. We stayed at the Biltmore Express next to the Westin for much less. The biggest issue is usually if the hotel/motel will cater to families like the Marriott and the Westin do.

It is important to remember the fact that $100 is quite a bit to most of the Guatemalan population.

    Hi!

I just came home with my son (Alexander) in September from Guatemala. I stayed with him there for 5 months (since he was born!) I would love to share info about the best (I think) B&B that is in Guatemala City. It is located in a quiet, safe, green neighborhood there. The owner and 24 hour concierge both speak english well. You have your own bedroom, bathroom, TV and internet access. You also have access to a large kitchen and they take you to the grocery store weekly for shopping and also to a laundromat.

The best way to get more info or for reservations is to email the owner, Adriana, at: deluna@intelnett.com.

I’m hoping that this can be shared with other parents wanting an inexpensive but very nice place to stay while in Guatemala with their child/children.

    Thank you!
