Listen Up! Check that wristwatch. A HUGE shift in the modern way of thinking will occur on April 30th at midnight.

OK so maybe not so huge. Guatemala has decided to give Daylight Savings Time a try. If you have any dealings with Guatemala you will want to take note of this.

Usually when dealing with Guatemala, the time difference changes 2x a year as the US (OK so most of the US) goes on Daylight Savings Time. Here on the East Coast, we are 1 hour ahead of Guatemala time but in the Summer we move to 2 hours ahead. Not so anymore.

As of April 30th (at 12:00am) Guatemala will move ahead 1 hour. This is also important for those states or regions who do not observe Daylight Savings time as you must adjust your Guatemala clocks as well.

Now there is some room for confusion here. Surprise Surprise right? Right now the dates of DST are April 30th – September 30th which do not coincide with the dates here in the US. Therefore there will still be a few weeks where things get jumbled up again. So anyway…

This program is supposed to save the people and businesses in Guatemala a lot of money in fuel and energy. Ben Franklin would be so proud I do believe.

So here is the translation of an entry found on Guate360 this morning regarding this new change.

Change of schedule in our country

The Ministry of Energy and Mines will advance one hour the standard time in our country on the 29th of April . This measurement will be effective until the 30th of September.
The measurement looks for to reduce to the consumption of energy in our country, considering a saving in electrical consumption by more than 25 million quetzals.

So to be ready to rise one more hour earlier from the 30th of April.

Of course you can always mark one of these popular time servers in your bookmarks. I have them already linked to Guatemala time. Go ahead and check them out!

Hope this helps!
