I would first like to offer my apologies to all of my fellow writers at adoptionblogs.com and all of my readers for going this long without speaking of the world renown Pollo Campero. No self respecting writer about Guatemala should have ever waited this long! Seriously though, Pollo Campero is a fast food establishment that should be visited by every family that heads to Guatemala. While the chain is not located only in Guatemala, it is a rare find in the USA. Most US locations are in California, New York City, Texas, and Virginia. However there are more Campero locations in Guatemala City alone (63) than in the entire United States (25).

Pollo Campero which roughly translates to “Country Chicken” or “Country Boy’s Chicken” is somewhat to a Kentucky Fried Chicken or a BoJangles in the USA. However, the menu items to vary somewhat to bring that Central American flavor into the mix. From the breakfast menu with eggs, salsa, and frijoles to the lunch with chicken and spicy rice, you are sure to enjoy the meal. Every trip I have taken to Guatemala, I have seen families returning to the United States with a large portion of Pollo Campero food to share with family members. By far, Pollo Campero is a favorite place for Guatemalans to eat out on the go.

As for the atmosphere, don’t expect anything special. For the most part, this is just your standard fast food restaurant. However, there are some where the staff offers a little more service (refills, taking trays, etc.)

It would definitely be a shame for you to visit Guatemala without giving Pollo Campero a try.

We have had the chicken at Camparos in Antigua several times and it is yummy!! I have only had the chicken and french fries from theier menu, however their menu is huge. When we took our driver to Camperos, we offered to buy him lunch and he ordered the hamburger and fries and it looked yummy too. They also have pizza, lasana, American donuts (yes, that is what they are called – they look liked plain powdered sugar donuts) and breakfast items too.

    We recommend it!!
