*Posted Earlier but with the WRONG email at the bottom…I’m a goof!
After thinking over whether or not to share this with you my dear readers I concluded that I would do so. I couldn’t be more excited about anything than I am about my upcoming trip to Guatemala. This time I will not be traveling for adoption related purposes (or none I know of yet
In August, I will be leading a group of teenagers and a group of adults to Guatemala for a trip to serve an organization that is helping kids from all over the country. They have a camp
southeast of Escuintla where we will be traveling to. There we will be doing service projects to help the group (Palabra De Vida – Guatemala) prepare for the upcoming camp season. This will be the first time all of these people will travel to Guatemala. For most of the teenagers it will be their first time out of the country.
The group we will be assisting are the very same people who took Kristina and I in during the adoption of Mia Rene. They did so because we had worked with them for years and felt as though we are family. In return, I plan to continue to support their work. One of the things I really get excited about it the number of orphanages they sponsor to come to camp for free. There is nothing else like it in the country! Orphanages that struggle for the basic necessities are given a week to socialize with other kids, fun, education, and hope.
It was on a trip like this in 1989 when I fell in love with Guatemala and I believe my path was directly set to return and always be a part of Guatemala. Now I have a daughter from Guatemala and in August I will return with a team to serve the people of Guatemala. Wow what a ride. Two of the teenagers we are taking are looking to return to the country after high school to serve there full time!

Some have asked how they can help with this effort. To be honest it is a huge financial undertaking. I have spoken with a friend who owns a coffee shop in Antigua (on 7a Avenida near La Merced…some of you know it!) and with his help I am going to bring back coffee for those who help send us to Guatemala financially. This of course would be a tax deductible donation. Suggested donation is $10.00/lb of coffee For more information on how you can help me, The Moose, and the rest of the team make it to Guatemala, drop me an email adoptguatemalablog@adoptionmail.com .
