Regardless of whether or not you are familiar with the author, if adoption has touched your life, you should own this book. I try not to recommend a product, a book, or a site unless I myself have been there, read it, or used it. That is why I am so happy and so adamant in saying that adoptive families should own this book. Though this book takes place in Asia, specifically China, it is universal in its message of the beauty of adoption. My apologies to grant who may want to review this as well over on the China Adoption Blog. I loved the book so much it had to be reviewed here as well.
The simple story sends a powerful message through its 32 pages of colorfully illustrated scenes. The words speak loud from the pages, as they seem to sing right to the heart of a parent who has adopted. This will be a great story to read you children as they grow. Of course that is once you are able to read it all the way through totally composed. My wife has yet to be able to keep the tears (of joy) from falling as she gets to a certain page. Most likely it will be the same page for you. I’ll let you decide when you read it.
The power of this book lies in the meaning of family I believe. Some may say that it doesn’t address issues regarding why she was adopted, the country, etc. It was never meant to. This book is a way of telling a precious baby girl that she is loved more than life itself. It tells her that she belongs. This book is an affirmation of the intense love her forever family holds for her.
So whether you are beginning, in the middle of, or have completed an adoption, head over to the AdoptionShop Bookstore right now and order your copy.
The adventures of Shaoey and Dot continue into other books that I have yet to read. When I do, I will pass the review on. Oh and Shaoey is pronounced “Show-ee”
