One of the finest people you will come across in the adoption world is Dr. Jane Aronson, often referred to as the “Orphan Doctor.” Founder of the Worldwide Orphans Fund, an adoption specialist and adoptive mother of two, Jane has treated thousands of adopted children and provided support to as many parents.

I have yet to meet Jane personally, but she was the doctor who evaluated Ella’s referral information. She also reviewed all the monthly reports during the process, responded immediately to my questions and concerns and blessed me with great peace of mind. To this day I regret not taking the two hour flight to New York to have her do Ella’s first examination after she got home. I was sorely disappointed with the doctor we used. However Jane came to my rescue when I agonized over the adoption doctor’s directive to revaccinate Ella. When I emailed her with my reservations, she agreed that it was not necessary to revaccinate or titer for Guatemala as long as the intervals between vaccinations are in keeping with U.S. standards; Guatemala’s vaccines are effective.

Although Jane has treated celebritys' adopted children, she is modest and treats every client with equal respect; she also prefers to just be called “Jane” and signs her emails as such.

Now a word about the organization Worldwide Orphans. Jane founded this organization for the children living in orphanages around the world who aren’t lucky enough to be adopted into families; the ones left behind. WWO sponsors medical and university students who live and work in these orphanages attending to the children's emotional and physical needs. In addition, training programs are provided for the orphanage caregivers and health professionals in child development, growth assessment, development tests and occupational therapy. In Vietnam and Ethiopia, WWO provides anti-retoviral treatments to HIV positive orphans and trains local physicians in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of pediatric HIV/AIDS.

I can’t say enough about this woman who is talented, generous and tremendously compassionate. Take the time to read a little about her – you’ll be impressed too.
