I’ve mentioned the organization Mayan Families in the past and all the wonderful things they do in Guatemala. Through them I was able to sponsor a young girl so that she could attend school. There are numerous ways you can contribute to this organization, and every dollar donated goes to worthwhile projects as it is run on a volunteer basis.

Checking over their website tonight I was once again totally amazed by all the families they reach and projects they initiate. Their aid ranges from helping individuals in need of food, medical care... more

With many of us parents planning to travel to Guatemala with our Guatemalan born children in the future, I keep looking for ways to “give back” to Guatemala while we are there.

One organization that I’ve been watching closing over the last couple years is Families Through Guatemalan Adoption. A sub-group called Moms on a Mission is about to head out on their third trip to Guatemala since 2005. Half of... more

For me it is fairly simple and straightforward: I have a remarkable little girl in my life thanks to the country of Guatemala allowing adoptions to take place. For that I will be eternally grateful.

I’ve mentioned before that when you adopt a child, you adopt a country: politically, physically, emotionally, spiritually, and if you choose, financially as well. Well, I’ve finally decided how I’m going to give back financially.... more

Article Sheds Clouds of Doubt Photo by Graham SoultScrolling through the Google alerts, I came across an article on "The Baptist Standard" website about a recent trip there to work in and with the orphanages. At first glance I was very excited to see the wonderful work they are doing. My excitement was boosted to see they work with the Manchen Girls Home which is where our Mia was during the time they had an infant wing. There definitely is a great thing happening with this effort.

Currently, they work in 12 private and government-run... more

*Posted Earlier but with the WRONG email at the bottom...I'm a goof!

After thinking over whether or not to share this with you my dear readers I concluded that I would do so. I couldn't be more excited about anything than I am about my upcoming trip to Guatemala. This time I will not be traveling for adoption related purposes (or none I know of yet ;-)

In August, I will be leading a group of teenagers and a group of adults to Guatemala for a trip to serve an organization that is helping kids from all over the country. They have a camp ... more

A good friend from one of the forums pointed out this effort that was being made by some celebrities in Central America. The organization they are working with is youthaids

Those of you who consistently read this blog have learned of the devastation felt by many Guatemalans due to a single storm last year. However, that tragedy is only the tip of a much larger iceberg called poverty. Most Americans visiting Guatemala would find almost 80% of the country living in what we would consider devastating poverty. Those who adopt from Guatemala are often left to wonder what conditions their child may have faced had they not been adopted.

It's not only adoptive parents who see the great need in Guatemala but also travelers, businessmen, and mission workers.... more
