Website: http://www.adoptionloans.com
This site is offered through adoption.com and gives to the option to finance your adoption through a Home Equity Loan, a line of Credit, a personal or signature loan, and an adoption credit card. While loans may not seem to be the method of choice to fund an adoption, it may very well be a necessity. I have often heard it said "I am real leery of taking out a loan for this." Yet many or I'd venture to say most of us took out a loan for a car, maybe a house, or maybe even a luxury item. To me,... more
Most couples know coming into an adoption what types of costs they will face during the process. Yet somehow many find themselves half way through the journey wondering where the money will come from. While there are many avenues available to help families find money for adoptions, one that is often over looked is that of fund raising.
Too often, families get stuck looking for grants, loans, employer reimbursement (all which should be pursued) but we forget that there are other avenues that with a little elbow grease, income can come in to help with expenses. Often this is... more
OK so the title is a bit harsh but you looked didn't you. Imagine though that the only photo you have of your baby is one that well...is not flattering. I have heard a consistent fear among those who are adopting that I thought I'd address and I look forward to reading your thoughts on this as well. Many people when waiting for their referral and photo become worried that when the look at the picture, the baby will not be this amazing beauty and that they will not feel connected to that child. Then this fear is compounded with guilt when they think how awful they must be for hoping for... more
I get news alerts of things that have to do with adoptions from Guatemala. Many times they are feel good stories that are important but not something to inform you guys about here. Then there was this story from the Rockford Register Star (http://www.rrstar.com). As I read, I had no doubt that the readers of The Guatemala Adoption Blog would find this interesting!

Then by moving your mouse the view changes and you can look 360 degrees around you in whatever location the picture was shot. Come check out Guate360's virtual tours of Guatemala. They are broken up individually so that you can look at which ever one you like.

Many times you will read posts that have hundreds of abbreviations. Even for those of us who are actively involved in online communications it can be confusing at times. One abbreviation you definitely need to know is the JCICS. This stands for the Joint Council on International Children's Services. Their brief description on the front page of their site says.
Joint Council on International Children's Services is the oldest and largest affiliation of licensed, non-profit international adoption organizations in the world. Our membership includes adoption agencies,... more
Unfortunately, many times in the midst of the excitement that surrounds an adoption some very important things and people can be forgotten. As adopting/adoptive parents it is imperative that we maintain a correct perspective about those who have made the decision to place their child with another family to raise. There is a wide range of emotions that come with a discussion about this.
Let me first say that in our situation, we never knew the birth parents of our daughter. It is not even known who they were. Mia was left outside of a small hospital in a remote region... more
Listen Up! Check that wristwatch. A HUGE shift in the modern way of thinking will occur on April 30th at midnight.
OK so maybe not so huge. Guatemala has decided to give Daylight Savings Time a try. If you have any dealings with Guatemala you will want to take note of this.
Usually when dealing with Guatemala, the time difference changes 2x a year as the US (OK so most of the US) goes on Daylight Savings Time. Here on the East Coast, we are 1 hour ahead of Guatemala time but in the Summer we move to 2 hours ahead. Not so anymore.
As of April 30th (at 12:00am) Guatemala will... more
