I’ve spent the last few weeks introducing terms, reviewing restaurants, suggesting tourist sites, updating you on news, and recommending hotels. Until now I don’t think this blog has been too ultra personal or relational. However, I can’t help but think that the addition of “Adoption Stories” would make a great reading corner for the Guatemala Adoption Blog.
As I read through adoption forums, listserv, and message boards, I am struck with the amazing stories of love and dedication I read. As I am well aware, there are numbers out there that are quite skeptical of adoption and adoptive parents. Though there are those out there that do adopt illegally and those with less than honorable intentions, they are not the norm and even more so, they represent less than a fraction of all of the adoptive parents.
So here is what the plan is. I am going to try and post stories of adoption (Guatemala adoption to be specific) to help give insight into the hearts of the parents. One of the main complaints of those who wind up in opposition of adoption is that parents do it for themselves. From my experience and as a witness of many other parents, nothing could be further from the truth. Through some of the stories I hope to tell, the reader will observe that the child is the number one priority.
I need a couple things from you the reader though. First I hope you will ride along on the journeys of these families as I am able to bring them to you. Secondly, it is impossible for me to know the tremendous stories of every person who has walked through La Aurora Airport in Guatemala City to bring home their child. Therefore I need you to recommend stories to be told by emailing me adoptguatemalablog@adoptionmail.com. Finally, recommend this blog to friends, family, and acquaintances for insight into the minds and hearts of adoptive parents.
